The one who responded to you obviously doesn't recognize sarcasm even when it's that obvious. Sounds like a sorry place to be.

    UK list

Love UKs but resigned from their list six weeks ago. Have never been disappointed with this list. Mods do a wonderful job. Thanks.

    Me Too

I too started out on the UK board...a kiltmaker told me about this place and I love it.

I do still watch and post to the UK board because there are SOME good people there still.

It is amazing how fast a thread can be hijacked there or how someone can pounce on one word, or misread, etc etc...lots of trolls...lots of trolls...

Seems worse since UK mgt passed on ownership.

But like I say...there are a few good folks there still... and I own eleven UKs so like to stay aware of what's going on.

May God have mercy on the tail end of anyone who dares offer constructive criticism of UK or a UK product. Management and staff of UK are okay with it and even seem to appreciate it....the loyalist trolls on the UK board do come unglued and attack with a vengence....sometimes....

I can't stand that yahoo group. Although I am still a member of the group, I hardly read the posts anymore.

I'm going to be careful here, but I have to say something...

A while ago I was on a particular board. It grew very heated at times, and we as members all were very invested in it. Another board came about, taking a slightly different tack of it's own design, and many folks either were members of both, or one or the other. I was in the both camp. One of the main rules on the newer board was: no bad-mouthing of other venues. Because you never know where people are coming from, this is a different space, and we don't need the bad vibes from threads about complaining.

It was a good rule. I think it still is. And while obviously, I'm a new member of the community myself, I would ask that members here think of that rule when tempted to rant or kvetch about 'other places.' As someone once said, If you can't say anything nice, come sit by me. Wait, that's not right... I guess if we can't say anything nice, maybe we shouldn't say anything at all.

So since I'm saying nice stuff- this is one of my favorite places on the Web to visit, and I look foward to where we're going and what we're doing, because it's always interesting. Thank you to the owners and the mods who keep it interesting but not overwhelming. And to all of you for making me smile.

I don't agree with that rule actually. Ok, no badmouthing and ranting about it, I can see that, but if you cannot say negative things about your experiences elsewhere, how can you warn others of the possible problems they may face there? A LOT of people have left the UK list because of stuff like this... may save others heardache to read this thread and not bother to join because of it.

I know it's making a leap, but if theres no 'saying somehting not nice' then technically you shouldn't post bad reviews of kilt/kiltmakers. Like I said, I know it's a leap, but if you can leave a bad review of crappyripoffkilts.com why not a mailing list?

    Thats all I'm sayin.

I wasn't going to post, but this thread keeps rearing its head, so here goes.

I have been on the UK group for over 4 years, and have found (for the most pary) that it has a great sense of community. We are all a bunch of guys with differing backgrounds/ideals/beliefs all brought together by our common interest in utilikilts. A lot of good discussion goes on there: right now topics include motorcycle riding in a kilt, dyeing a UK, and what fabric not currently offered would you like to see. But with that also come the fact that (most) regular kilt wearers are not sheeple, but rather strong minded individuals.

In the last year or so, the UK list has attracted a few (one in particular) troll, that is guilty of the opinion that if you don't agree with me you are *&%^@* wrong. In the last three months or so, this has lead a couple of new members to become mini trolls as well. The one is on permanent moderation (all his posts are monitered), and others occasionally (me included shamefacedly) have gone on temporary moderation when we get a little too carried away. But the list owners don't restrict (too much) what is discussed because most people there like a forum where ideas can be debated.

There was receintly a post here talking about this place being overmoderated (a few topics got deleted that weren't offending anyone, and they were in teh off topic area to begin with). As was mentioned in that post, there is really only so much one can say about kilts. If you actually look through the archives here, some topics come back every two or three months as new people join the list. However for those who have been here a while, it is all old news, but we still want to talk about things with our kilted brothers. That is the point of the UK list. That is why posts there that are not about kilts are supposed to be marked OT, so that people who want to can participate, and those that don't can just ignore them.

Yes the UK list would be a little better if the name calling would stop (again it is a small minority of the list that does that), but it is still one big disfunctional family.

Finally, where did you see posted that if you wear anything other than a UK you're an idiot. Amerikilts, RKilts,PK's, and Stillwaters have all been talked about favorably there, and most other casual kilt makers have at least been mentioned, and I've never seen a negative post about any of them.

Adam (one of the many many guys that post both here and on the UK list)

I can't actually make rules, it was just a suggestion. Feel free to disregard it if you wish.
