A word of warning here: be very careful in deciding to wear a 'normal' or 'standard' jacket with your kilt. Basically, they are too long and apart from making you look out of proportion, they will impede the swing of the kilt's pleats. Kilt jackets are cut short so that they come no longer than about hip length - or to where the kilt's pleats are no longer stitched down - and are cut away at the front to allow space for the sporran.
'Bomber' style jackets are ideal for winter casual wear with our kilts, as are nice chunky Arran-style sweaters!
By the way: a warm welcome to you.
