Aye Ham,
Waking up alive is a good reason to celebrate the day by wearing a kilt!
And its a fitting answer. "Why are you wearing a kilt?" "I woke up alive this morning and I'm celebrating!"

I wore my kilt into a country bar back in Tucson Az ( they had a little rock bar built onto the side of it so you could have your choice of "a little bit of country...a little bit of rock and roll" ) ANY WHO it was the only time I ever got any flak about wearing a kilt......but what the guy giving the flak DIDNT know was that I knew 90% of the bouncers in the bar........I didnt have to say anything... as the guy was talking his shyt " what are you gay? only a chick would wear a skirt " ect. I hear from behind me .." hey scott ....is this punk bothering you?" I turn around and see 3 of the biggest, meanest bouncers standing there with arms crossed ( and when I say biggest I mean 6'5" 290 + Lbs brick houses !!) I looked at them ....looked at the punk ....and said " no I think he was just leaving the bar" and thay said " OK we'll just make sure that he and his buddies find the door"
Cross my heart hope to wear jeans !!!
I even waved goodbye as they were "helped" to the door
once you have the confidence to wear it without reservation it shows and
since that time I have never thought twice about wearing my kilt ANYWHERE
rocky point Mexico ? done it
hard core biker bar? done it
Gay bar? (on a dare, and I got free drinks the whole time ....even though I had my wife on my arm the whole time)
you name the place ....I'll wear the kilt!
I think the mentality for most [non kilt wearing] people is If they got the cajones to wear it... they got the cajones to back it up! so 99.8% of the time no one will try/say anything derogitory(sp)
get comfortable in your skin, and the rest will follow!!

Blu, I am game at Second City here in the Windy City! You buy the tickets and beer and I'll provide lodging for you and your clan! To me this sounds like a grand time in a great atmosphere. And I really would like to see how many jokes an improv group could come up with! My only request would be to try and smuggle in a tape recorder to capture it all for posterity!

Argonian, is Toronto also known as the Windy city? Anyway, I meant here in Chicago, although it would be fun to visit Toronto.

It's only windy on top of the CN Tower!
No...I understood...just got done reading a book that's a sort of pre-history of Second City and it reminded me that there was a Toronto branch of SC.
Difference is that one is in an old laundry and the other is in an old firehouse...
Toronto is one of the best vacation destinations in North America...especially if you like to shop. You'll see a great similarity between Chicago and Toronto as far as the lakefront is concerned...the areas have gone from commercial/industrial use to public space and recreation. If anything, I believe that Toronto's use of their lakefront was probably one of the inspirations for the re-development of Navy Pier here in Chicago.
There USED TO BE direct train service between the two cities...I understand that an Amtrak engine took you so far and then they uncoupled it and hooked on a CanRail locomotive for the rest of the trip...but I hear that it has been discontinued...which is a damn shame; it was a great and relaxing ride and I had been hoping to go that way again and get off in London, Ontario to check it out and get to Stratford for the Shakespeare. I understand that I missed "Much Ado" with a soundtrack by Barenaked Ladies this year...I am such a procrastinator!
International Second City Kilt Nights, anybody?
bet

You really need to go see Johnny "Bagpipes" Johnson at a stand up club some day. If you went kilted he'd probably invite you on stage with him! If he's ever in Calgary at Yuk Yuk's again I plan to go kilted. He's one of the funniest comedians I've ever seen, and the things he can do with a set of bagpipes is unreal!
