I did five dives (four buff) in two days off Bonaire and Curacao with water temperatures around 80F. On my third dive on day one, I was chilled. On dive two of my second day, I chose to wear my shortie jacket. On both days, I returned to the ship and sat in the sauna for a half hour.
80F is still cold if not actively moving, and after too long in the water your core temperature goes down; you have to build up your body heat again.
Loch Ness would be much colder than our great lakes. It might be ok for a polar bear dip on New Years, but not for any length of time.

Damned admirable attempt, if you ask me. Good on them for trying.

I once took part in a triathlon(sp?) where the swimming event took place in Loch Ness.
Yes, it's cold, but at long as you get yourself ready beforehand and keep yourself moving in and out of the water it's not unbearable.

I have to confess to being (ahem) nude in Loch Ness. It was in October, and we jumped in and then quickly out, just to say we'd done it. It was cold, but it didn't seem as cold as the Pacific Ocean in October.

And I've surfed the Pacific in October (and later in the year). Not nude, but I can see doing that for a stunt.
