Welcome, Scott-you've found the best source of information on wearin' the kilt on the web right here (the site, mind you-not me!). In your shoes I'd probably get the tank in your clan tartan if I could afford it: it truly is a remarkable garment, and the basis for casual and formal clan functions, evenings out, etc. I bet this would get looking at something more affordable and perhaps a bit easier to care for that you can cut the grass in, fish in, hike in...whatever you do that you do "grubby" (you oughta see my Utilikilt). Whatever you decide, keep us posted, please!
Bryan...flyline floatant and troutslime will stain twill if you're not careful...

Hello Fellow Hossier
Scott,
Welcome! I'm new to the site as well, and in the process of purchasing my first kilt.
I have been in contact with Matt Newsome regarding my first kilt. He has been a superb counselor thus far. He's been very patient with my long list of questions, and he is having some wool samples sent to me from a mill in Scotland - so I can choose one of my family tartans from an actual piece of cloth.
Good luck!
Jay

Good advice from Caber: don't pass up the chance to peruse Matt's website, http://www.albanach.org/ . Tons of useful and interesting material to be found there in addition to his kilt and tartan services.
Bryan...good links to be found there as well...
