And here's another case for the kilt. Trousers across a large waist look doofy to modern eyes, & wearing the waistband below the belly just frames it. Soooo....the only answer is to wear the kilt!

I agree, Sherry! That's why Orthodox priests wear cassocks, I think!
I also I think he will understand better when the ladies give him more attention than he knows what to do with.
Getting him there will be the trick. I'm relying on my sons (his godsons and nephews) to drag him into Kilt-land. They are good at getting him to participate in what they want him to join in on. If he continues to hang with them, it's only a matter of time. Plus, they all say they're getting married in kilts, and therefore Uncle Jim must wear one (haha).
It'll be worth it, but it will take time and planning.

Being used to "Orthodox time", I'm sure the wait period would fly on by! ;)

I think that is a universal constant of space-time.
I wonder if Einstein wore a kilt? Maybe that's how he came up with the Theory of Relativity.

Well I am 5'10 1/2" and pushing 290lbs so I guess I qualify. I agree that you should stay away from the really bright colors, but be carefull and not go too dark, that can also accenuate size. Then again what is wrong with a big hairy man in a kilt. Keeps the negative comments to a minimum.

Indeed, large intense men in kilts can be, at the very least, intimidating!

Even not so large men in kilts can be intimidating, or so my neighbor tells me. ;)

Bythe way- the bright colors thing isn't as big of an issue with tartans- unless one of them is much, much brighter than the others, the colors are usually around the same intensity, and actually break up the form a little. (Some people say tartans were intended as easily woven camoflauge. <s?>) I know when women wear plaid, it tends to be in more fitted clothes than other patterns, because bunchy or shapless garments in tartans would look like a big ol' mess with weird 'ends' sticking out and all.
I say if he's the kind of guy who'll wear a Haiwaian shirt or crazy ties, go ahead and get the brighter tartans. Just one gal's opinion, though.

No, he is Mr. Conservative when it comes to color.
A kilt is probably a big risk for him! So I'm thinking Black Watch, or something built on Black Watch. Safer, subdued, traditional (!), and easy to work with.
Time will tell, though.
