OK Ham, Let's see a picture of a "Kilt in Cowboy boots". If anyone could pull it off it would be you!

    That doesn't make it right!

It is generally necessary for riding, but it does look a bit strange!

    High moc/boots look better!

As for what I wear with my kilts...unless I'm dressing up for a special occasion I wear these, found at Payless Shoes for under $50. Cdn.

For dressier occasions I wear a pair of black slip-on dress shoes.

I tend to wear either a pair of black loafers or a pair of black wingtips with my kilts. I'm usually rather dressy anyway so that usually looks great. I have to admit that I've always been tempted to get a pair of trooper boots, but I don't know how it would look with a kilt.

Mostly with my kilts I wear my Doc Martens I have a huge selection of Docs to choose from, with the casual poly/Cotton kilts that I make I wear my Airwalks or Converse.
When I dress up I have my dress shoes. Just recently I purchased I nice pair if Geronimoe( hope thats how you spell it ) boots that slip on .I look at where I'm going and coordinated which kilt, sporran, belt, hose, and shoes to wear. Sounds a little high maintanence. But I love it.

It depends on the look you're going for. I like New Rock boots when I'm going full leather:

Every year at the LONGS PEAK SCOTTISH/IRISH HIGHLAND FESTIVAL in Estes Park, CO, Alex Beaton can be found wearing western boots with his kilt, on stage. Kilt hose sagging.

When I'm going out and want to look nice, I wear my Doc's:

When I'm going out for a hike, or if I just don't want to bother with hose pulled up and flashes, and I want a more casual look, I wear my hiking boots:
