I've seen these on various sites. I don't think I could look at this particular sporran and not think of the smell which I pass on the highway every 5 miles. I run across too many live ones on my place in the country. My wife might shoot me by mistake coming down the driveway. The skunks in my area are noted for carrying rabies. A lot of livestock in our area gets put down every year because they got sprayed and infected which leads me to this question. How do you know your sporran came from a disease free animal? Does the seller address this? I do think they look cool. Just wondering.

Any virus or bacteria would be killed during the processing of the skin.

Rabies can get transmitted by spraying??? Now thats just scary!!!

was in provincetown a few years back & a skunk was following me home one eve - i guess it had become a bit tame from being around people too much... now that i learn that they coudl transmit such serious diseases i will stay a bit further away...

    YIKES!!!

As I've said before: I'll stay away from any sporrans that look like animals.

If my dogs don't go after it and rip it to pieces, I'll probably catch my male cat trying to mate with it!

Both EXCELLENT reasons not to have an animal sitting in your crotch. Especially the dog!

Eveytime i see a piece of fur like that with the face stil on it, i think of the scene in Ghostbusters where a woman's fox wrap comes back to life & goes for her face... Imagine that happening down there with that sporran... YIKES!!!!!

It would, in fact, be a total hoot if you could rig up a mechanism that would make one of these animal sporrans lift it's head and open and close its mouth...sure to be a hit with the kiddies!

I know that I posted this before but it might bear repetition for the do-it-yourselfer:

The fox and racoon skins are reasonably reasonable...some of these are a bit steep. I suppose that you could inquire about skunks and the like.

You know what would be cool? A way of integrating a MACE spray into a skunk sporran! Can't you just imagine the surprise when the skunk on your waist starts spraying! ;-)

Yeah, but with my luck, whoever installed it would put it in backwards.

    Hey! no fair guys.

You just about made me choke to death on my sandwitch.

I can just see the look on the crooks face as you reach into your sporan to get what he thinks is your wallet & suddenly the skunk spays him in the eyes.

Wonder if someone makes a pepper spray with skunk scent added. That way if he got away the cops could just follow the scent. :-D
