Michelle must be a riot! To be honest, I actually enjoy the whole process of kilting up - even if I'm not the quickest. There's a bit of a ritual here that makes me feel like something important is about to happen...

I found out I can kilt up pretty fast this morning when a neighbor needed a jump start and I was sitting around in my Yukata. Took a bit over 4 minutes start to finish.

I have been known to strategically place everything along the way and do a slow walk to the door as I finish. If everything is laid out properly 3 minutes top. Socks, shoes, flashes, shirt, Kilt, sporran, and belt, Open the door and out I go. Of course living by myself, I do not have to worry about those responses of "why are you doing that?"

It definitely goes faster with practice! But I think you can only get this fast if you have thought ahead of time about which kilt you will wear and determined in your mind what you will wear with it. I have some "stock" outfits I can put on without thinking, but if I want to vary it some, or the first few times with a new kilt, I have to think about the coordination and sometimes still end up putting on 2-3 different shirts paired with 2-3 pairs of hose to get the right look.

I like the McSnail bit . Is there a tartan? Pics? I've told women that it takes me longer than them to look this good!

I guess I'm horribly obsessive compulsive. I decide on the combination and lay it out the night before so that the following morning I can shower and get dressed without having had the benefit of my morning coffee and yet still look presentable.

I only have a few (6) kilts, and I tend to wear the same one for a few days in a row. Hey, I'm a hiker, I've worn the same outfit for five months in a row....
So I usually take off the kilt, then the shirt at night when I go to bed, and drape them over the back of my computer chair. When I wake up in the morning, on goes the shirt, then the kilt, quick as can be - probably ten seconds, all told. Add another fifteen or so for the belt and sporran, and thirty for the hose, flashes, and sgian dhub. Throw on a sweater and sneakers and I'm good to go out the door. I usually wear oatmeal or green (most of my kilts have some green in them) hose, and one pair of flashes (all of my kilts have blue in them), and all my shirts are some variant earth tone, and my sweaters are charcoal. It's easiest if you only have a few outfits.
When I'm getting ready for work it's even easier - black socks, my uniform shirt, and a khaki UK and I'm out the door.
Andrew.

Like Glen, I live alone and have no-one to chide me for taking my time - but I LIKE taking my time; it's part of the enjoyment of kilt wearing. Several years ago, it took me about 20 minutes to get ready "to face my public!!" - and it still takes me about the same time. I savour every moment - especially when it comes to strapping on the kilt itself.
There is no way I could decide the previous evening what I was to wear the next morning! So much depends upon the weather, my mood, which shirts are still in the wash, etc., etc.

I have to admit I am fairly a high maintenace dresser when it comes to wearing any of my kilts, I have to make sure if I'm wearing a tartan that I wear the appropriate shirts or sweaters that show off the tartan especially since it's not just a kilt I'm wearing it's my kilt and I always want people to see it in it's best. If I'm out an ABOOT( Canadian for "about") in a self colour kilt I follow the same guid line then its making sure everything is coordinated after all that I ask my wife and she has been awesome about letting me know if I look bad. For the pub T-shirt and Docs always a great way to look and feel relaxed.
