Hi folks, I've found this site by mistake several times and on purpose a few more. Decided I would join today as I am in the mood having attended a pipe concert last night. Of course I wore my formal outfit. Last year my daughter married a Scot so it was a good excuse to buy a kilt (I've always wanted one!!) Quite the wedding. It was in Italy with a whole mess of kilted men wandering and marching in the streets of Cortona. Anyway, a friend found a couple more beautiful kilts at an estate sale, neither appears to have been worn much, if at all. The straps aren't even marked by the buckles. This brings me to my question. Does anyone a source for strap extenders or should I go to the shoe man and have some made? There will be another wedding this summer and I would like to make the "spare" kilts available to other family members. I have worn my kilt to work a couple of times and promised the ladies that I would show my legs on St. Paddy's Day. Here in the Wahington desert, legs won't be out for a few weeks.
thanks for joining us Rob. I'm a proud wearer of the County Westmeath so it's great to have another Irish lad about. What tartan(s) have you getting into?
Well to answer your question about strap adjustment I'd find a half decent leather worker to do up some straps and stitch them in. simple job and you may want to do it yourself if you're so inclined. But beware the mall shoe butchers! a saddler or old cobbler if you can find one.
Ozmeath: thanks for the welcome. My folks spent a couple of years in Queensland and we enjoyed visiting there. To us it was just like being in the western part of the US, at least by the hospitality of the people. I did get in the wrong side of the car more than once while traveling about....but I did the same thing when we were in Ireland last fall. The tartans that I have now are Wallace, Wallace Hunting and another red one which I haven't investigated.
St. Patty's Day!
Anyone in the Tri-Cities area keep your eyes peeled for a group of kilted lads throwin back the pints. And if you see us, come join us...A few of us took the day off so we could get started early.
