lol, now I didn't say "all the time" I have ordered one set of ones like these, and paid quite a bit more. But all of the other sets I have, save for one handknit pair, are cheapos
I had to add one nice pair that actually fit.

Yep. And once you wear a pair, the cheap version just doesn't "hold water". My hose from the Almost Unwearoutable Sock Co. in Northumberland, England, were about $70 US, but they most certainly live up to their name! I wouldn't trade them for anything.
I posted this in another hose thread, but my grandmother's definition of frugality was only owning one of a particular item, but the BEST money can buy, so it will last a while (and you won't have to spend more money to replace it!) In other words, you get what you pay for.
Steve -- those are great hose -- you're tempting me!
Cheers,
Todd

I agree with Todd... Once you get better quality stuff, you UNDERSTAND why it costs so much. I think that $50 CDN ($40 USD) may even be a little cheap for what they are!
For those of you who have come into our shop and seen the hand knit aran kilt hose from Scotland, you can compare them at $60 USD to $20 or $15 USD for Gaelic Themes hose... nothing WRONG with GT hose, the others are just better and took some little old lady a couple days to knit. Steve's hose took someone a few hours (at least) to make and he has to make SOME money on selling them!
Steve... the hose look great! I think they'll move in the store and on the site. How many sizes are you doing in each color?

Oh, I agree with both of you on the "Quality" thing - seven years ago, I bought my wife a full length Harris tweed coat from Orvis ($600-ish); she says if the house were on fire, she'd still pull it from the closet on the way past - I just never thought about applying the concept to socks.

Orvis -- guid man! That's where I bought my Barbour jacket from -- I feel the same way about it (and my kilt) that your wife does about her coat!

We are going to try to stock three sizes in each color. S-M-L. But everything is pending finding a source for the right wool yarn at a decent price.
I just got an e-mail from the current source and they say that it is not cost effective for them to custom dye less that 1000 lbs of each color.
On to source four.

Great looking hose.
I have a couple of questions,
What is the size range of the M and L
If I take a size 11 shoe do I buy a Large or a Med?
Are They available for sale now?

I have six pair in the shop now. All size 10-11.
An e-mail or phone call to me at the shop is the best way to get these on your feet.

Of course they come with a stipulation.
You must post a review here for everyone to see.

Great looking hose Steve, I may have to come check those out the next time I am in Victoria.

I hear ya Todd. I would rather own one kilt at $600 than 6 kilts at $100. I don't wear kilts everyday, so the pride I feel in the very well made kilt will mean even more to me.
