Don't know if its a good comparison, but I have three replica War 2 jackets from What Price Glory, all wool, all made in Pakistan, all having to match the originals so guessing there's more custom work in them, all lined. Run from just over $100 US to $150 US depending upon design.

Has anyone ever had experience buying from "The British Shop"? They've got a combination argyle jacket & vest that looks nice in the picture but only costs $300 for the whole set. I'm considering buying it but I'm wondering if anyone has had any dealings with them before.

It does look nice, but it's not a really great bargain. I've been in that shop. It's a nice little store.
To be clear, it's not a bad deal, either. Just typical.

I think those are agood option Ron, but some of us are just turned right off by military replicas. Especially if we were never part of the military.
I think what is being said is that people are looking for the equivlant to the traditional tweed jacket (which is always an option for "not-so -dressy") but at a fraction of the cost. Maybe one of these kilt companies (wink, wink Rocky, Bear, Steve, etc) needs to find a way to alter the typical sport coat into a no frills jacket to be worn with kilts. Yes we can just buy at coat at Moore's and do it ourselves, but if the hassle is taken out and I can just buy one for $100 or so bucks, I likely will.

In a recent post about Gleniff Highland Outfitters, I had a look around their site. They have some modern style jackets that may be of interest to some. While the price is a bit high, it can give you an idea about having a jacket tailored to fit like a kilt jacket. http://www.glenniff.co.uk/modern-jacket-1.htm of course the Crail/Day jackets are a lot cheaper http://www.glenniff.co.uk/crail-jacket-1.htm

Cheap kilt jackets...

I was talking to one of their guys today at the LA Irish Fair and asked about it, as they had a coat on one of their mannequins. They are still waiting to get some silk material for the linings, but they plan on having some low priced casual kilt cut jackets soon.
I ran across this last evening:

Matt Newsome has a blog wherein he describes getting a cheap Harris Tweed sport jacket from a thrift shoppe, and having it cut down into a quasi-Day Jacket. The photos he posted looked pretty darned good.
