I don't recall seeing discussion of the Galic Theme hose recently. I get these from Scottishkilts.net and have found them to be very satisfactory.

I have been reluctant to order the W. Brewin hose mentioned here because the ones I have seen at Highland Games, etc. have seemed too light weight.

    Just my opinion.

The Brewin hose are quite thin and wear out quite quickly if worn on a daily basis, but you get what you pay for.

They are rater light weight. I have a few pairs, and will wear them for casual events or just day wear. Many times I will wear them in my boots. I've even worn them under slacks when I couldn't find dress socks in a particular color.

But they aren't for "evening" wear. They aren't fancy, and they aren't hand-sewn. Wear them with a PC or an argyle, and it will not look very nice.

I too wear Brewin hose - both with the kilt and trousers. I prefer them to dress socks with trousers because of the thickness (thin for kilt hose, thick for dress socks).

I like the range of colours they offer but it's too bad they don't offer a heavier range even if would cost a bit extra.

I just bought two pair -- Lovat blue and Lovat green -- and got them for about $9 a pair, which included shipping. I figured I could try them out, and if I didn't like them, I was only out a few bucks. Sounds to me like about what I expected: good, serviceable daywear socks, which is just what I was looking for.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well when I bought mine. In the end they aren't bad for what you're paying for them. Don't expect them to be anymore than what you paid for and they will meet your expectations.

    Thumbs up

They are thinner and light weight, which is fine for our hot weather here in Houston. They also fit over my fat calves a little easier than most of my heavier wool hose, although streched out the dark colors show a little more skin through than I like. But they are good for the price. I have a few pairs, generally wear them for casual stuff or day wear.

For a slightly more expensive alternative, you might try the hose from the College of Piping (http://www.college-of-piping.co.uk/a...Kilt_Hose.html). They have piper hose, which including shipping, comes to about $22 US (much cheaper than I've found the same hose elsewhere).

i had the exact same experience. I got forest green instead of navy. The green is so dark, it's almost black. So again, understandable, and they go well with my Saffron, so I kept them and am happy with them.

I just recieved 2 pair of the W. Brewin hose. Tried them on and love them. Sure they may not be for formal wear but they will be a great day to day hose. You cant beat them for the price.
