Amerikilt
I'm feeling sort of bad to be the guy who made some negative comments about AK's. Let me add to the comments about Mike's excellent customer service. He corresponded with me three times, before I made my choice and then, when I requested a change of fabric--after the order was places, he was quick to accommodate me.
Like I said previously, I only own one AK and it's a denim, which is not a good example of their products.
And, like I said, I'm sure if I had registered my concerns with Mike, he would have probably done an exchange.
Bottom line, good, well-built, economy kilt--just don't expect the same as you'd get with an 8 yard wool number. With summer coming on, I could see where they would be excellent for hot, humid weather.
Happy Tartan Day!

Ron, could you do me a huge favor and point me to the thread where you and Jimmy Carbomb were discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of unsewing the inside pleats? I've used the search function, but I can't find a trace of it. Thanks!

Yikes! That'd be a hunt. Not even sure its on this version of the board. Will check when I get a chance though. I initiated the thread though, if that helps.

I have an Amerikilt and, while I agree that it is very light weight and wrinkles easily, I really like it. I wouldn't wear it at work, but I wouldn't wear jeans to work either. For backpacking, it can't be beat. It is light weight, comfortable and who cares if its a little wrinkled on the trail. I usually wear it as I would a pair of casual pants (the only time I wear jeans is when I do yard work or am in my wood shop). It is superb for what it is designed. For the price, you can't go wrong. I don't have many solid colored shirts, so it works for those times to. Although, I have to say that I'm hooked on Rocky and Kelly's PVs. They are priced similarly to the Amerikilt, but are more dressy. As stated above, Michael is first rate to talk to and in customer service. The one AK I have is mainly for hiking, but eventually, I plan on getting another for solid color use.
If they outlaw guns, can we go back to using swords?

Ron, thanks for digging up that thread for me! I'm quite proud of the fact that, after the months of research I've put in, it wasn't entirely over my head .
