Masonic Night in a kilt!

I recently started looking into the masons as something I would like to do.

I had approached my grandfather to see if a good family friend would vouch for me to start on my way and out of nowhere he said" why dont yo ask me ?"

little did I know that I come from about 5 generations of masons!
my GF is a 32nd, and he was very excited that i would come to this decision on my own with out knowing the history in our family ( as far as masonic history) the only problem I'm having now is since I have moved back to
tucson Az I have to start all over ( I havent been accepted yet I was just starting to find out all the info on how to get accepted and getting all my ducks lined up as far as getting my GF's blue lodge to send the paperwork and what not)

has anyone got advice to give to someone who would like to join?
anything will help ...mind you I start Paramedic school in Aug, so I wouldnt be able to start the process till after school is out

my GF says its a great orginization to be a part of , and since i am in the Fire Dept, I figure this is just another way to help people

I too came from a long line BUT my father only brought it up once. At that time I had just turned 21 and was not interested.

Some years later he died and on my night of the EA initiation I really wished he had been there as my Grandfather who was a Past Master of a Lodge.

Well, 30 years later I decided to join. That night I walked into the lodge to get some answers, so of which I knew, and ask a few more question. I got the petition and took it home to talk to my wife about the commitment I was going to make. She knew of my families background with the Masonic Order (Mother, Father, GFather, GMother...etc) so she was alright with it.

I went back the next week and submitted the petition but I did not have anyone to vouch for me. I talked to several member and explained my connection with the order and I even had my fathers old lodge manual. They signed the petition, with a STRONG talking to about not letting them down!

From there on in it was a waiting game. Voting on the petition one month, investigating committee the next month then the committees report the next month and then final talking to about the committment then EA ceremony. I am still the 'newbe' so I don't have all the answers but jump right in.

For me, I'd have to go all the way back to my Great-Great-Grandfather before I'd get back to a male-line ancestor who decided to continue the family tradition and become a Mason.
