Nice colors. I like the Earthy colors as well. Not to push it too far along but could you imagine a weathered sackett? I can only hope. Beautiful, too nice.

    In order:
Cajunscot - the gray was a late color change. In a couple of the earlier stages it was a whitish-blue, which ... well, the gray just works better. As for explanations:

    • came from the coat-of-arms,
    • it could represent our independent nature, standing apart from the crowd,
    • an understated acknowledgment of those outstanding family members (pioneers, generals, ambassadors) through the centuries
    • it may just be an indicator of the family quirkiness to have a light thread in a dark tartan (like comparing the family motto to a quote by a two-and-a-half foot tall Jedi Muppet)
    Remember, you asked!
KiltedKT ByDand - by Matt's estimate, it'll be another twelve to fourteen weeks before Locharron is finished weaving the fabric, then it has to be delivered to him, then the kilt-making ... this will be a long-term jones.

MichaelSteinrock - yeah, the "Hunting Sackett" effect was intentional.
mrpharr - my oldest brother keeps pushing for the "Weathered Sackett", and I'm for it, just not yet monetary-wise.

Everyone - thanks for the compliments, but they should go to Matt - he did do the design. My family just had the happy problem of selecting just one from among the many he provided.

Congratulations on a fine choice of tartan color/design, Wompet. I've been in your shoes having designed the Fitzsimmons tartan, albeit with some much appreciated help from various people, including our own fellow Xmarkers M. A. C. Newsome and macsim.

As with your honorable venture, Matt handled the weaving and STA recording (12.20.2005) end of things for me. When my Fitzsimmons tartan material was sent by the mill (D.C. Dalgliesh Ltd.) to Matt, he was bestowed with the honor and distinction of making the very first Fitzsimmons kilt, just as I have been with my owning that kilt. If that sounds aloof and cheeky to some of the guys here, so be it...but trust me on this: When you get your Sackett kilt made and you put it on for the first time, I have no doubt you will feel the same way.

Again, my heartfelt congratulations: Enjoy the Sackett tartan, share it, cherish it and wear it with pride...with this tartan, you've enabled a legacy for all of the surname for ages to come.

    Talking It's Arrived!

Matt got it in a week ago, trimmed off enough for a box pleated kilt, and sent me the rest:

I was using the flash, so the colors are a little lighter than they are in reality.
The fabric jones is over, and now the kilt jones begins.

A kilt in that tartan is going to look really smart. Looking forward to seeing pics of the kilt when it arrives.
