I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with Hamish here. While the combo is "OK", what I really notice is the shirt and not the kilt.
I do like the shirt though.

KCW,
I'm of the same mind as DaveDove here. So just wear your SWK Black Shadow Tartan with it and show that shirt off! One of things I like about my SWK Black kilt is that I can wear a more striking shirt (normally a rich bright blue dress shirt). I don't think there is anything wrong with the shirt, instead of the kilt being the focus. It's a nice variation as normally the tartans are so striking that the rest of one's outfit is sort of the frame for the kilt and not noticed much.

It is dominating your appearance and totally takes the eye away from the kilt, which should be the focus of our attention. A plain white or black shirt would allow the kilt to 'speak' to us but, at the moment, it is being silenced!
Sorry, really I am!
Ham, sorry to shake your confidence, but I am still wearing a kilt! No worries though, I expect that some would/will not make some of the ensemble choices that I make. That is one of the great things about a kilt! Based on your postings here and reviewing your own stunning pictures, I would have been surprised if you had been partial to this combination. You have defined your style in a great way, but I am still finding mine. I typically follow your lead, but sometimes the student must find their own way and style!
Cheers!

Rob, I would have to agree with some of the others that this particular shirt does not work very well with a tartan. I have found that a solid, light grey, or even solid white shirt goes well with the Nightstalker tartan.
I think the shirt you are wearing would be great with a black or grey Utilikilt.

How true that is, Rob. I didn't get where I am today by not listening to my 'students'!
