I often do the same thing, but I also do it "handless", with a slight lean foreward as I start to bend my knees, lowering the bottom of the pleats below the seat of the chair, then sitting and sliding back. It works better with kilts that have a high "swish factor" over those made of stiffer material.

I'll do the same thing, that's actually my usual style of seating. Its definitely become a habit, as I'll find myself doing the same maneuver even on the odd occasion that I'm wearing shorts or jeans. Drop down and slide back.
