Wow - that is really going some in the weight loss line.
I have been making kilts for myself which are just folded and sewn down then put into a narrow waist band and held with a belt, no other fastenings. I put two belt loops at the back, one each side and one on the end of the apron. When the edge of the apron hits the belt loop at the side I take the kilt apart and remake it a few inches smaller.
Can any of your kilts be take apart and remade in this simple fashion? Some of mine have been redone three or four times, but it is not really obvious. Some are now 12 inches smaller in the waist than their first incarnation. It seems to be a continuous cycle of remaking, wearing and putting aside for a while as I shrink.
I have some which are sewn down the edge of the pleats, those are remade with a smaller 'show' but the 'soft' pleated ones are ironed flat and remade entirely.
I sew by hand, using a slender needle, which seems to ensure the waistband and belt loops etc can be reused each time.
The sewing of hems and edges, and sometimes the joins, can be left undisturbed by the resizing, so it is not as big a job as making from scratch each time.

I can rebuild an operating system kernel with my eyes closed but I can't sew to save my life, unfortunately. That's what I pay good $$ to the pros for.

Keep this up, and you'll have to change your handle to Minorus. Or would it be Migrus? It's been a few years since I studied Latin.
Anyway, I feel your pain. I've lost almost 30 pounds in the last six months (going from 248 to, eventually, 160) and my kilts are getting a tad roomy. My first one, 44 inch waist, is going up for sale soon and the rest (42 inch) may soon follow. Thank goodness for the Utilikilt floating waistband!
Stick with it. Going panted for a half a year is a small price to pay for how you will feel latter. To help, put aside a few dollars a week in a "kilt fund" so that when you hit your goal, you have the funds to restock your wardrobe immediately. We need to find you a piggy bank shaped like a kilted Scotsman....

Congrats on the weight loss! I seem to be gaining, while the waist is staying the same or slightly shrinking, which is completely unusual for me. The regular workouts, especially waight lifting, seems to be working. Anyway, back to you, you should take the money you are saving on food (if you are), and put that into a kilt fund. Talk about an incentive!
