Congratulations on getting your first kilt.
Don't let the comments here put you off wearing it out and often. I agree with what they're telling you but the whole point of this forum, I think, is to help each other to get the very best out of this marvellous garment. Take the nit picks in the constructive spirit in which I am sure they were offered.
Enjoy!

Very nice! I know the store in Alexandria you're talking about. Nice little place. That tartan looks like a Campbell, right?
Anyways, great looking kilt and I hope to see more!

OK, I made some adjustments. I went around like this today. Is this better?

OK, an update on the kilt pin. My wife found the manufacturer's website here, and their pins are available here. So you want yet another picture? One with my face? Alrighty, you asked for it!

With my 6 year old daughter Emily.

Paul,
Looks good. If you do decide to go long on the hose, wear dark colored hose, if you're going to wear boots. The off-white contrasts too much with the dark boots. Makes your legs look a bit segmented. In the cooler months, having the kilt hose pulled up (even with boots) does help a bit in retaining the heat. Once tried the casual look with my Lennox district tartan kilt when it was about 45 degrees F outside. Was a little cold on the lower legs. Also, looked a bit strange to my eyes. So, unless I've been wearing sandals, I keep my hose up with flashes on, no matter what footwear I'm wearing, when I am wearing a traditional kilt.

A warm welcome from chilly northern Norway!
Looking really sharp, there. All the positive and constructive feed-back from the rabble here certainly builds confidence.

I have to disagree with Kilted John on this one. I don't think pulled up hose and boots looks good in any colour (oh yeah, I have done it too). It just looks too awkward and really makes legs look too tree trunk-ish. The same goes for runners or hiking shoes with hose or dress socks(?) pushed down, except that it portrays the opposite, and looks like it is lacking something.
Boots with hose down shows more calf and gives a bulky look without being too much, where as hose up with boots makes one's legs look like cinder blocks.
Here's the general guideline....boots=hose down, shoes=hose up
The pictures look good. Congrats on your first kilt.

Yes, it's Campbell of Argyle. I have no clan affiliation, but I like the colors. I also like the Gordon modern and the Hunting Douglas. Looking at one of them for the next one. Uh-oh, I'm already thinking about the next one. I think I know where this is going!
