Hello. I'm new and not a kilted male but a female fan. I was lurking about when I read Mechamaniac's post and I had to write a note of encouragement.

I’ve encountered men in kilts out and about on several occasions and I hate to stare (given the novelty of seeing one in public) and make them feel freakish but I can’t help myself. I love that kilted men take a stand and wear what they want. I think kilts are classy and noble. Good for you and keep it up - try to look past those people who don't quite "get it" because there are those of us out there that do get it and love it!!

I'm at a work-related conference this week, and have worn a kilt most of the time. I've gotten a few "skirt" comments, which seemed to break down into two categories:

    1) a couple of guys I know pretty well whom I know are doing it to pull my chain -- these I usually just ignore

    2) there were several others who used "skirt" and I had a distinct impression that because "kilt" wasn't part of their everyday vocabulary, they used "skirt" because the right word didn't come to mind as they were speaking. I sensed that no offense was intended

In Defense of The Great State of Maryland.....We've got it all. From the ocean to the "mountains". I just wish those two morons running for governor would stop slinging poo at each other. Can't wait for November 8th.

But there are a lot of good people in the state. Come out to Carroll County. A lot of them are right here.

I posted this parable so time ago but it seems appropriate considering how long this thread has gone on.

    A Zen story.

Two monks walked along a path. They came to shallow but wide and muddy stream. Across on the other bank was a beautiful lady of noble station. She asked the monks if one of them would be so kind as to carry her across the water, and in so doing save her lovely robes of silk from ruin. Without word the first monk sloshed across the water, picked up the lady, and carried her to the bank where his brother monk stood. The lady thanked him and went her way. The monks continued along theirs. The second monk kept staring hard at the first monk. After many miles he could bear it no longer. “Brother, you know that those of our order are forbidden to interact with women, let along touch them!” he exclaimed. The first monk stopped walking and regarded his companion. He said “Brother, I left the lady on the bank of the stream. Have you been still carrying her all this way?”

    Cheers

    Thumbs down

Yes, the lack of culture is abundant. But, I assure you it reaches much further than the state lines of Maryland.

As I got out of the truck, I heard someone in a passing car say...."Nice dress"

When I got to the counter in the store, there was some housewife type standing there who sparked up the following conversation...

SHE "Y'know, I've never actually seen anyone in a kilt before"
    ME: "Well, now you have."
    SHE "Don't you feel funny?"
    ME: "Not at all"
SHE "Well, I don't feel funny in my sweatpants and flip flops"

Paid for my stuff, and walked out of the store. As I was walking back to the truck, some hag passing through the parking lot said "Nice skirt" I turned and saw who had said it, she was wearing a nice smirk on her face that quickly disappeared when I just looked away from her and said "idiot"

I never thought there would be so many uncultured assholes around here. Guess I'll have to wear my SWK to the store alot more often to make sure they are properly educated.

I know how you feel.. I live in the LEAST cultured section of Anne Arundel Co. and hear it all the time.. I just consider the source.
