Sounds like the PC is the perfect choice.
Wear the bowtie. Wear the flyplaid if you like. White hose -ok, off-white - better, argyll, only if you're in a production of Brigadoon.
My opinion, for what little it might be worth.

Well....actually I grew up in one of those old Southern families that this sort of thing is just ingrained; those are just the rules that I grew up with. The Wilkses and O'haras would be proud.
Actually, after re-reading the post it seems just a bit overly emphatic and I didn't mean it to be. Just the way I was taught to do it.
BTW - that's attire for the extended wedding party and not neccesarily for the guests. It also varies a bit by season but since everyone should marry in June then that shouldn't matter too much.

My daughter went with a Scottish theme for her wedding and I decided to go with this jacket (in black) from Tartan Web - http://www.tartanweb.com/view/sherif...oat(vest).html.
Wore it with a cravat and flyplaid. Looked and felt like a million bucks!

"Anyway, my older daughter is getting married next May, and I plan to give her away in full formal kilted attire. PC & vest, tank, tux shirt, et al
"
A minor point coming from someone with a menswear background ... even though you don't like bow ties ...
Be aware of the type of formal shirt you choose. In recent years, a LOT of people have been wearing wing collar shirts incorrectly. A wing collar shirt is ONLY correct with WHITE TIE, i.e. men in tail coats and white pique vests. The reason is that the band of the tie is not supposed to be apparent against the neckband of the shirt. Black (or coloured) ties should be worn with a pleated front/ lay-down collar style shirt.
I know there will be objections to that statement, but that's because weddings have become "the bride's day", and the men of the wedding party are treated, and dressed, as accessories to the women! The "Formal Wear Police" won't come to your door if you wear the wrong shirt - just thought I'd toss a little sartorial advice into the discussion!

And dislike bow ties or not, for the love of all that is holy, get a real one not a silly clip on. Tying a bow tie is really easy and looks so much nicer.

Ron,
I've been "preaching" that same message for quite some time around here!
Glad to have you around!

Well, I have the exact opposite opinion of some I've read here, so rather than confuse the issue I'll just mention one thing worth considering. As father of the bride, you're a supporting character. Be careful not to upstage the stars by dressing in a way to distract attention from them.

Here's a pic a co-worker sent me that shows a PC Style jacket with a neck tie. I don't think it looks bad necessarily but it may look to grungey for a wedding.

Any one know the tartan HE is wearing? Look closely.
Enjoy

I'm pretty sure I'd hate that outfit, if I could get past Patricia Arquette's "assets" long enough to give it a good look. ;)

Thanks, Bob, for calling my wedding a production of Brigadoon.
To paraphrase a popular saying among the kilties, "Real Men wear tartan hose!"
