I do all my own leather work...have for years. I also use the double needle technique. Anyone who is a serious DIY'er needs to learn how to stitch leather with a double needle. If you are interested in learning there is no better source than the classic work by Al Stohlman "The Art of Hand Sewing Leather." This is available from Tandy Leather (retail and on line presences throughout the US). They offer several nice starter sets, with the overstitch wheels, needles, awls, and other goods you'll need to get started.
