Sorry, fixed it...was just copying a list too....I sure loved my drinking, but now I miss my brain cells.
...question remains...which of the 8 don't make the 7 list or the 6 list and why?

Galician celtity
Dear Slohairt,
First of all, thank you for your comments. It has been a pleasure to read them, but I would like to add some information.
You are right, we lost our celtic language 10 centuries ago and it was replaced by a roman language, nowadays we speak Galician.
Although Galician is a "romance" (language with roman origin), it has hundreds of words from celtic origin (for example: atrancar, banco, baraza, beizo, berce / berzo, bico, billa, borrón (montón), boto, bragas, braña, centola, vidoeiro and virar are of celtic origin). Besides, our music, food, traditional games and sports, legends, etc. are celtic.
As a mather of fact, the celtic legend compilation Lebor Gabála Érenn (IX century) states that the Goidelic Celts departed from the Galician port ot of Brigantium comanded by Brat, the youngest son of Breogan, celtic king of Galicia.
Finally, I have to say that I have been to Galicia a few days ago (not in Galicia, Iberian peninsula but in the other Galicia, Poland (not Turkey).
Best Regards to all of you,
Slan go foill!

Hey ya! Welcome PEB from the low desert southwest of U.S. America. I looked at your profile, but forgot to say howdy.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

thats true ted people should feel free to believe what they believe. However when people hear the world celtic they have very misguided and warped views about what celtic culture was, who were the celts etc.
I prefer truth and fact over fallacy

I see your posts Seanboy.
I really hate dictionary definitions...but gonna do it anyway...from my olde Websters Collegiate published back in 1961....in the U.S.A.
"Celt 1. An individual of any of the various Celtic-speaking peoples, including the ancient Gauls and Britons and the modern Irish, Scots, Welsh, and Bretons. 2. A member of a race of central and western Europe described by the ancients as tall and blond."
Hardly a thorough definition. I'm guessing it depends on what criteria you use, what your focus is, and how you slice and dice the peoples involved.
Hence, many answers and many more opinions.
Including a basketball team in Boston...

If this were true which I dont believe it to be, then there are far more than 6 celtic nations.
here is a wikipedia definition - pronounced /ˈkɛlt/ (see Pronunciation of Celtic), is a modern term used to describe any of the European peoples who spoke, or speak, a Celtic language. The term is also used in a wider sense to describe the modern descendants of those peoples, notably those who participate in a Celtic culture. Celts were a diverse group of independent, indigenous tribal societies. While similarities in language, artifacts, religion and social structures are known, each culture had its own language and traditions.[1]
racially the scots are closer to scanadanavians than the celtic groups especially due to post celtic migration
the population of celts in england alone was only about 1 million. in scotland it was smaller. I think it wuld be more accurate to describe the scots as north european instead of inaccurately pocketing them into smaller ethnic subdivisions.
If the celts were a racial group germany then the germans, english, polish, dutch, swiss, romanians etc etc would all be enocmpassed into the celtic nations.
of course this is only my opinion and I hope people here just take it how they please but I dont consider the scots, irish, welsh etc more celtic (if at all celtic) than any other nation in most of continental europe.
we may have some gaelic speakers but language alone does not define a celt nor does bag pipe and fiddle music.
I prefer to use the term celt in past tense, refering to those who actually were celtic.
and many thanks for the welcome.
