There's one liquor store in my area where every time I walk in the owner informs me, "The single malts are over there." Now, I happen to like single malts. But I wonder if he tells other people where things are based on outward appearances. If someone wearing a yarmulke walked in would he inform them where the Manishevitz is? Or a Japanese fellow where the sake is?

In any case if he gave me a discount on the single malts because of the kilt I wouldn't say a a word.

    Andrew.

Face it, kilted guys are a good advert for whisky...it's subliminal....you see a kiltie, you say, "...mmmm, I have this sudden craving for single malt...".

But it sounds like one of those wry, ironic and unfunny New Yorker cartoons...guy in a kilt standing at the counter of a package goods store saying to the clerk, "Scotch?".

That having been said, I whole-heartedly support any discount on single malt that is given to kilted men...as Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing."

Don't forget to add a wee splash of spring water to it. It really mellows out the Highland Park and releases the flavor. Try it neat and then with the water and see which way you like it.

Alan, I have a bottle of the Highland Park 12 at my place as well. If you think that is good, you have to try and find a dram of the Highland Park 18. I was lucky enough to have a couple of drams at the recent whisky tasting. Between that and the Lagavulin 16, I was one happy lad.

Excellent point turpin. It really brings out the flavor and bouquet of the whisky.
