My adult daughter from my first marriage is very much into goth wear and while she approves of my black kilts, she'd be embarrassed to accompany me if I was wearing a tartan kilt. My wife likes all my kilts.

Back from vacation and pics are posted I didn't have my kilts with me in Reno, and frankly I'm too delicate a flower to want to go kilted when the chill wind blows. It was, however, great kilt weather in Southern California, and I took full advantage of it. In addition to the responses mentioned in my first post, I got a couple of "nice kilt" from shop keepers, and passed on another UK card to a tobacconist, who reported owning several traditionals dating back to his days in a pipe band. The holidays ended with a bang with a party at our house, where several of our guests had never seen me kilted before. My wife noted that that every one seemed accepting of the concept, and thus further progress was made.
Hope all of your holidays were happy too.
Best regards,
Jake

Loved the pics! As to support from family members, I have an eighteen year old daughter who has been supportive since day one. I have always been the "different" dad what with the tattoos, my taste in music and now kilts. In her circle of friends I've got the reputation of being the "cool" dad! The only time she gets mad is when her friends come to the house and want to talk to me about old rock bands!!

Thanks all. No word on the B-I-L, I expect that will be a long term project.
Best regards,
Jake

While finishing up my Christmas shopping a couple weeks ago I was in a store and was approached by a saleswoman who complimented my Fraser Hunting kilt and said her husband has one but doesn't wear it nearly enough because of the cost. I agreed that they can be expensive but that there are several companies making more cost effective kilts for daily wear and gave her a couple of names. While she was very nice and actually knew a bit about Scots culture I attribute it mostly to "making a sale". The great part of this story is that while at the counter checking out, a guy next to me hears the saleswoman say "Mr. Fraser" and he says, "How do you spell your name?" I tell him and he says, he's a Fraser also. How 'bout that.
We spoke a bit about where our families were from and swapped a few names that didn't match up for a link, but it was still a neat coincidence. He complimented my kilt as well and went on his way.
An exchange like that is worth all the stares and whispers by others in the mall.

I was in a bar/restaurant in Savanna Illinois over xmas break, wearing my Isle of Skye. As I was walking past a group I overheard a woman say "he must have been playing at a funeral or something." I "piped up" that no, I just like wearing kilts.
"You're kidding!", she says.
"No" I replied, "I haven't worn pants since December 20. I've worn this to work several times."
"Wow."
I then got into a conversation with a fellow next to me who said he's a Macdonald. Turns out it's Macdonald of the Isles, so we probably share some common ancestors. I find this to be a typical occurrence when I am out and about in a kilt.

the only negative comments I ever recieve are from teenage kids trying to be cool in front of their friends. Any commnets from adults are always inquisitive and positive.
