My bro and sis-in-law are always looking for something to buy me for Christmas. This year, I asked my mom if she was still knitting, as she knit some diced hose for my brother many years ago. She said no, but my sis-in-law brightened up....you see, she knits, and for my retirement, she knit me a lovely Argyll sweater that goes wonderfully with my Loch Ness SK. She has all year to knit them, and the expense of the material is not that great, so, I wait in anticipation for next Christmas, and some lovely Argyll hose in hunting MacIntosh colours. Now, to measure my legs and send them email, to my brother...then wait.

Scoutniagra: would your sister-in-law like to adopt another brother-in-law. My brother is married, but I'm a really nice guy. Heck, she can just adopt me as her step-son as long as she knits argyle hose.
Brother Beuth--you can see why we don't wear argyle hose.

I wouldn't spend the money on tartan hose and always opt for self colour hose, or even rugby socks for casual wear.

Yes I can certainly see why few wear them. I am not saying that they're not worth the money, just that I do not place them that high on my priority list. Maybe one day, but first, I have got to get my Fraser red!

Once you own a pair, you'll see why those of us who wear them prefer them for formal attire.
I would never advise a novice kiltie to buy a pair right away, but they certainly make a striking statement and add a bit of panache to the kit.
