We had an ice storm in upstate NY this week with about 1/4" accumulating on the cars. When I was in NC we used to get at least one ice storm each winter. The best story to come from that was when my boss's little sons decided to surprise their father by clearing all of the ice off of his Mercedes Benz. They took a hammer to the hood and roof to break off the ice! It was great because I really didn't like the guy and he was kind of anal retentive about his cars.
Just stay off the roads because I'm sure there are no salt trucks wandering around Texas.

Fellas,
We're on our sixth day with no power here in Springfield; There are still about 20,000 of us here in town, and many, many more in the rural areas with no power or water. The situation is getting worse by the day, and now the weather folks are calling for 3-6 inches of snow this weekend.

Fortunately you're not cut off from posting on the net. My computer only runs for an hour or so on the battery before it needs mains power to re-charge.

I remember some Ice Storms in Texas while in college, all I can say is VICIOUS!
It is certainly an unusual winter, and I do have many friends and some family that are in really bad situations. I just hope that everything works out for all who are battling this.

I've been following some of the weather-problems on the news and online. My heart goes out to you guys!! While we're used to that type of stuff here, we also have the resources to get rid of it. To those in the south who are not used to it, my best suggestion is stay inside and stay warm.

I can only imagine what it would be like around here without snow-plows and mag-chloride.

An even bigger nightmare. Out here in Aurora, they only put the blade down every once in awhile and put down vary little MgCl, so we have some areas, like the street our complex is on, that have one very narrow strip of bare pavement where the sun hits and cars have worn the snowpack down, leading to big ice patches on either side of the road. Gonna make moving tomorrow real fun. I really hope we don't get snowed on.
