If you use a name pegged to a location like Carolina, or even kudzu, you're pretty much stuck. What if you move?
If you use your name you can take it with you where ever you go.
And, what if you decide you want to branch out into some other field? What are you going to do? start another company? with a new name? That's too much like work.
I'm not going to presume to suggest names - you'll have to do that - but I do think that whatever name you choose should be something that isn't specific to any location or any occupation. If you need a business "name" for a specific service or product, consider a DBA.
Get tax and legal advice from a real accountant and a real attorney before you form your company. There may be liability and tax benefits from forming your company as a corporation or as an LLC - chief among these is that these corporate entities can shield your personal assets from the litigious should your company ever be sued.
If you are going to start a business, do it with the goal of making money and move toward that goal. If the IRS decides that what you do is simply a hobby, the tax benefits will evaporate as your wallet melts to pay the back taxes, fines, and penalties.
A business plan is good.
Don't know why I'm thinking of it but there used to be a sign in southwestern Colorado - one of those little towns on highway US666 (now renumbered US491) - that quoted the Bible: "The wages of sin is death" (we used to argue about whether that sentence is grammatically correct).
So, the wages of sin is trousers.

Something I should add . . .
In my primary work (religious), I need to keep it "pack and carry" and am hesitant for a state-specific name. "Carolina Kilt and Kit" would sound AWEFULLY odd if I moved to Arkansas, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, or even back to Atlanta.
Kudzu is memorable, easy to spell, VERY southern (used heavily in this area-> Atlanta has a Kudzu Cafe, Kudzu.com, among others), and rolls off the tongue. The positive connotations could be its durability, tenacity, beauty (actually LOOK at it some time), and how it spreads could be a good thing too. It is also usable as a nutricious Romain lettuce-like food, fiber, and many, many other uses, if only more utilize it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudzu (I know it is wiki, but usable)

There are many, many, many more.
A lot of the people around here seem to think that name is ideal. YET, I am unsure of the larger world's perception (i.e.-> WHAT IS IT??)

What about an ancestral name? Or Highland Kilt & Kit? In Canada I've never heard of Kudzu but then again I wouldn't be in your target customer base unless you were going online orders.

I still like your "MacWages Kilt and Kit." (no esses) You can branch out into other kilt/Scottish related stuff without the name no loner fitting, and, since it's not your actual last name, if you sell the business, it's OK, too. And MacWages travels much better than kudzu or Carolina. (Kudzu is just a little too . . . corny or something, I think for Scottish attire. And we've already seen that folks from other parts don't know about the de**ed stuff.)
The others are kind of cute, MacWages Kilt and Kit sounds like someone I'd buy from while Carolina is a bit too southern and kudzu brings up visions of overalls and plows. And that's from a Southerner!
Good luck on your venture. Keep us posted.

A quick hijack - I look forward to the day that the kudzu meets the Japanese knotweed that is currently taking over our area. I figure they'll meet in southern Pennsylvania or Maryland one of these years.
May the better invasive non-native species win!
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread - MacWage, I've got no great ideas, but I wish you well with your endeavor.

The only issue with MacWage that could be a problem is the youth culture and McWages, ie, a job at McDonalds making minimum wage. It is slang for being dirt poor, cheap, or a shopper at Wal-Mart. (I bought my clothes at Wal-Mart because my McWages woudn't allow me to buy some better bling bling)
If you did stay in the Carolinas, I'd go for Carolina Cilts and Craft, just to be different, and avoid the dreaded triple K. Just register both kilts and cilts in the domain names, and have both names take you to the same site online.
