For any Canadian rabble, I highly recommend Terra brand boots. I have worn them as a work boot for the past 6 years and love them. My feet size out at 12EEEE and the Terras fit great. They also have the european style box toe which is a wide fit. This past summer I got a pair that are in the style of Blundstone aussie boots. They are, IMHO, better and they cost less. I don't know if the brand is available stateside but if you can find them, give them serious consideration.

I have wide feet, I wonder if they make them in extra wide sizes?

Good choice. I own a pair of Bates, a pair of Timberlands, and a pair of Docs.
The Bates get worn a lot more. They fit better, they're more comfortable... Second is the Timberlands.

The knock against Doc quality comes from back, 15-20 years ago, when they gave Na-na in the U.S. a license to make their own "Docs." They were crap.
The real deal, made in England, boots are great - I've got three pairs of boots and three or four pairs of shoes. Think my oxblood boots are pushing 15 years old now, plenty worn, but they're broken in!
On tying, for the boots: lace up all but the top eyelets. Wrap the laces around your ankle and tie in the front. That's the classic Doc look.

Love my Docs. Need a new pair, I've worn mine out. Love them with black hose for long days on my feet at festivals (and the pub afterwards). Great casual look with a kilt.

I have owned two pair of Doc work boots. Both were steel toe models. The first pair were quite possiby the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The second pair however were very heavy an hurt my feet. I ended up giving them away.

I stiil have a pair from 13 years ago & I wore them everyday for 4 years. They are great boots. I cannot say anything about the boots now, but if the quality is as good as it was 13 years ago I will say get them. The only problem I had was that there was no arch support. So I added an insertwith support. Hope you enjoy.

I will always say "one can't spend to much on boots". I mean that sincerely. I myself am not a fan of doc martens. I have yet to meet a pair that I couldn't kill in short order. For most folks they are bulletproof. I like the way they fit. For work boots, I like the Tiger toe miner boots from matterhorn. (cove shoe company for you L.E. and military types.) They also make a search and rescue model, comes without the shock insulation (600v) and tarsal gaurds. I've had my miners for three or four years, it's just about time for new soles.
Also boots for kilts, Steel brand, underground, and don't forget new rock, you get alot of comfort for your for your $$. Like I said "one can't spend too much on boots", or kilts...

I just found my old pair of Doc's in a box of junk I had laying around. They must be almost 14 years old, they're used and abused but they fit better now then they did in High School. Doc's really are some of the best boots I've ever had.

I have been seriously considering a pair of brown Corcoran Jump Boots as a casual boot for my kilt. I loved the black ones I wore in the Army.
By the way I mean the WWII style, dark brown that can be polished not the brown flesh out style.
