Try Old Chub, a Scottish style ale made in Colorado. It's a meal.

One that comes immediately to mind is Fraoch, from Williams Bros. Brewing Co.'s "Historic Ales of Scotland" series. They also have an elderberry, gooseberry, and a seaweed beer (though I often use a touch of seaweed in brewing to remove protein sediment).

Locally, Cambridge Brewing Company puts out a seasonal beer called Wind Cries Mari, which has heather in it. I know I've seen another commercial beer with heather, but I can't recall it offhand.

Our local pub, the Benleva in Drumnadrochit always has a good selection of Scottish real ales and hosts an annual beer festival. It'd amazing how many good small Scottish breweries there are around now. There can be over 30 different beers at the festival !

I managed to try a few of the Cambridge Brewing Company's brews when I visited the MIT last year which were very nice, especially the heather ale.

Seek out Traquair House Ale and Jacobite. I'm a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to Scotch Ale. I consider these two among the very best of the best. Very good, a bit oakey with some dark fruit flavors. They have a very sweet flavor profile that contrasts/compliments very well when paired with spicy drams especially.

They're brewed in the longest inhabited building in all of Scotland, dating back to 1101. It's located in Innerleithen, Peeblesshire.

Check it out! If you find some, let me know what you think!

Also, if you want to learn more about beer, look no farther than this:

Look me up, same name on that site!

My favorite Scottish beers are Belhaven, MacEwan's and Tennant's. I also like Harp, but it is an Irish beer.

Traqauir House is another ale that is supposed to be one of the best examples. It is hard to find in my area and I have yet to try it.
Traquair House Ale is the best beer I have ever tasted. I used to be in love with Fuller's London Porter, but once THA hit my lips, she became my mistress. I'm still married to the porter and she doesn't mind my filandering because I always come back to her, as my concubine is not cheap. Our local beer warehouse in Baltimore has it for $7.50/bottle (and a 10 oz one at that) and it can go anywhere from $10-$15 a bottle in a bar if you can find one that sells it (the Brickskeller in DC comes to mind).

As you said, it is the example of a Wee Heavy.

Really? It's all over Michigan! Make the 45 minute drive up to Discount drinks in Wyandotte, they've almost always got it. $5.99/bottle.

I like McEwan's and I brew my own. I love stout, but sometimes you can just not beat a nice, crisp, Scottish Brown Ale.

I can get McEwan's at the Class IV for $10/6 bottles. While visiting Dumfries we had a beer that was aged in whisky casks before bottling called Inness and Gunn. If I could find that here I'd be so happy.
