I once attended a club meeting in an old hall where the maintenance people forgot to turn the heat up after the weekend, they- January in Michigan. They usually turn the thermostats down to just above freezing to save a buck or 2. Sitting on the metal folding chairs taught me the 'sweep' in a big hurry.

I can say that it's probably a common problem for those of us with "ample" backsides. We do have to work at the sweep to make sure the "bits" aren't resting on the chair.

Though not a large guy I have experienced the same sensation, the only thing I can suggest is SWEEP, SWEEP, SWEEP.

Practice it at home it can help to preserve the mystery, and your modesty to boot. As I am wearing a kilt full time now I can tell you there are times when an improper sweep can be embarassing.

Hey, try being a Canuck in winter, with leather seats in the automobile! You only do it once, and you remember to sweep. ;)

I got to thank you guys for all the responses I got. I found its easiest just to wear it lower. I know what you mean by trying to catch the edge on the chair and scootch back. I'm 6' so alot! of chairs are pretty low to do it on ( even with my shorter legs)but I'm trying to get better. I fully understand Dread's words on the spread and crotch depth, the wrong pants just hurt. Thats sorta why I've found the kilt alot more comfortable. So I will practice my sweep, and thank you all again.

I never had this problem with the 8-yard "tank", but recently got a 4-yard kilt and found that I have to be more careful with sitting down and sweeping. I do like how light it is to wear but I think that extra 4 yards of pleating does provide additional "cover", especially on the frontal view.

Now take the whole issue and throw in trying to sit down in a booth at a restaurant! Sweep, tuck, and slide into the booth as a large guy is pretty tough, in a kilt or p@#$s!
