Think of the reverse
I'm getting married in a few short months (and I'm making the 6 kilts for the wedding party). I know how sad I would feel if anyone in the party said that they were insulted I was asking them to wear a kilt. Be there for your friend regardless of the dress code -- or don't be there at all. (Now we got engaged just before halloween and when we asked my ring bearer to do his task this very intelligent four year old informed me that "I'm going to be a wizard not a bear. I don't want to be a bear because wizard's are cooler." when I explained he said "But I don't want to be a bear. I want to be a wizard." Now that halloween is past he is looking forward to it (and I showed him what (our) ring bearer will wear, and he thinks its pretty cool)

if it helps...I've had that same thing happen to me many times. Eventually everyone will understand that a kilt really isn't just a costume, but is extremely classy formal wear as well as something that can be worn casually, depending on the accessories.
good luck with those pants. Try not to fall over putting them on!

Sometimes we endure for our friends. It is the noble Kilted thing to do.

Definitely wear it for the rehearsal dinner and bachelor party.

Sometimes the Groom does not have control. When I got married I asked her what she wanted me to wear, a Tuxedo, or a Kilt. (I would have had my kilt sooo much sooner if she had let me then.) She chose a tux. After all the day is really HER day, not THEIR day. So make her happy, and then you can still be his friend.

It my be just me, but I would not go to any function that told me not to wear my kilt. It is my decission to wear kilts, & all my family & friends know this & accept it. If anyone wants to ask me to any function, without my kilt, I would politely decline there invitation, as we are a double act.

I quite agree with your sentiments there, but there are times when my absense just isn't an option.

When my step daughter got married many years ago she had the traditional wedding setup.. Then half way through the reception her new father in law put on his kilt and everyone enjoyed it. (I wasn't kilted at the time but will do the same thing next time there is a chance.) A bride never wants to be shown up but when the party really starts, the walls come down.

Just ask him for help figuring out how to put trousers on, that'll teach him.

when my buddy asked me to be a grooms man I asked him and his bride
" can I wear my kilt?" they said no because it was a western wedding and it wouldnt look right with all the cowboy stuff...
so I had to wear a western tux for my buddies wedding, but I told them before the big day that if they wanted me to play my bagpipes at the reception that I wanted to wear my kilt...cause playing the pipes in p@NT$
" wouldnt look right"
and you've seen the results
since most people dont want to wear the monkey suits at the reception
( hell most weddings I've been to the bride changes into something more comfortable after the deed is done) see if you can do the same, and wear your kilt at the reception!
