Last night my wife ironed and sewed about 1/2 the innner-pleats. This morning she finished them. Then we realized that they were wrong and she and my mother pulled all of the stiches on the inner pleats back out . However we were still feeling hopeful and positive.

Then while my mother was testing out how to do the bar tack the sewing machine decided to stop sewing forward. Yup it will only sew backward.

So we're on hold until we can rent or borrow another sewing machine.

Yes, many hands make light work--you could have a "kilting bee."

    Or sew it backward.

My grandmother came to visit once and while we went to the zoo she sewed a beautiful wool suit for herself. We were impressed enough, then we found out she never figured out how to get the machine out of reverse and so sewed the entire suit backwards. Sigh. I wish I had that wherewithal with a sewing machine.

    djwesco and Family,

Wow, you've got me real homesick. Back in the '50's my dad was stationed at the Old Coast Guard Air Station and we lived in a house just down the street from you.
Near the corner of Indian Trail & Drummonds Pt. It's now on the historical register. I think it's called "The Deerfield".
My brother was born in the house.
    Thanks for the photos.

    Smile Moving towards our goal!

Thanks for the votes of confidence, encouragement and great stories! I will take this moment to clarify that while I am taking part and helping, so far I have not been allowed to sew on the kilt. I think that is mostly because both women are enjoying it. I won't be complaining about someone being excited to make me a kilt, however, I will be eventually learning to sew better.

I'm glad you like the pics. Sorry about the homesick feelings. I think I know the corner you're talking about although I'm not sure which house it is. I'll have to go take a look tomorrow. I wish I had seen this earlier, I was in town most of the day.

We lost only a few hours of potential work on the kilt (had to take Thursday so that my wife could interview for a job in Virginia). Two friends came up with sewing machines (both portable, not sure what the difference is). So we were back at it today.

Bar taking, I think we will be reinforcing this later.
