Something pointy, sharp, and useful...
Off in a slightly different direction for everyday use, I have worn a small pair of scissors in place of a skian dubh. What are scissors but a pair of sharp blades with a hinged fulcrum? They announce my preference of artistry over physicality. What kiltmaker would leave home without them?
In addition, they are unsurpassed as an eating utensil. The two-blade action easily slices anything tough into bite-sized pieces, then opens into a two-pronged fork for eating. A slight gripping force, similar to mechanical chopsticks, is available as necessary. See? Knife, fork, chopsticks, all rolled into one.
Another member here, Dreadbelly, signs off his posts by announcing that his skian dubh is a pair of crochet needles.
