Thanks to you all for your kind advice!

    a

My wife has wanted to get a sewing machine for some time, so we went out yesterday and got one, and I have already started on my first project: A solid colour casual based on the X-Kilt, but with traditional leather straps and a slightly wider apron. I bought some heavy cotton drill for $6 per metre, and there is enough for two kilts for my son and one for me. Unfortunately, we were unable to find "dark blue" so I managed to convince him that teal would look great.

After I've completed this project I'll probably try my hand at a Cornish National tartan for him so he can match my tank. My 8 y.o. daughter has already put in an order with me for a Cornish National shawl, so I can see I'm going to be busy.

Thanks once again for all the tips, links and advice - I'm so glad I found this forum! You guys Rock!

    Regards,

    Troy

A little tyke in a kilt is adorable! I wish I could deck out my four year old nephew...his parents would kill me, though, I'm sure!
