    I was wondering the same thing. See, the piper is in the movie twice. Once in the very beginning, piping for a ceremony in a kilt and argyll jacket. The second time is this brief scene where he playing by the lake. I want to say he's weing a kilt and thick hose (because it's winter then), but yeah, it may be pants and a coat... I'll pretend it's the former.
