    Todd:

It looks great! A beautiful kilt. Of course, having grown up in Wright Co., Iowa, I recognize the very flat farm land.

That particular plot of land is about 2 miles west of old highway 69, and about 3 miles south of highway 5.

Keep going SE and you'll come to my maternal grandmother's home turf of New Sharon in Mahaska County.

That's a great idea for another maternal tartan for me. That yellow "corn" line sure leaps out.

And boy, that sure is FLAT!....

    Ron,

We went fairly close to New Sharon on our way home from the Amana Colonies. My ancestors settled "next door" in Marion County around Knoxville.

That part of Iowa certainly isn't as flat as North Central Iowa. I love being able to see, though -- the Ozarks makes me claustrophobic at times.

I like to joke that the yellow & green in the tartan stands for John Deere, although my family were Oliver people.

Beautiful Tartan Todd. What does each of the colors represent? (Yeah, yellow for corn, but the rest?).

I'm eagerly awaiting my box from Matt.

The symbolism of the Iowa tartan:

Yellow for corn or state bird (Eastern Goldfinch)
    Green for corn or grass
    Brown for the earth
Red for barns or state flower (Wild Prairie Rose)
    White for snow
    Blue for water or sky*

    * The Blue could also stand for the over 75,000 Iowans who served in the Union Army during the Civil War, out of a total population of around 675,000.
