Well, I quoted Scotchtoberfest due to people creating a REAL holiday out of the fictional one that was aired on the Simpsons.... since then, people have turned it into another Scottish-themed holiday, usually involving imbibing in many a glass of Scotch.

Third Friday of October is the day.... in addition to Tartan Day, St. Andrew's Day, Robbie Burns Day, Orange Day if you're of Protestant descent....

Baltimore has an Oktoberfest every year. It is at the National Guard Armory in the city. Probably the largest in the area. When I get the date I will post it. I know its a drive from Connecticut. But, Its a lot of fun. I weant to another oktoberfest last year kilted. Almost got shot by the Governor's guards. Too many beers and kilted. Met the pres of the local St andrews socitey. Talk about cultural diversity.

Post Steuben Day Parade in NYC

    Hey, Dutchman,

Saturday, Sept. 15th, will see the 50th annual Steuben Day Parade here in NYC. Those of us who share Germanic and Celtic heritage (in fact, ALL kilters ) could meet somewhere that day and have a joint celebration.

Does anybody have the new German-American tartan designed by USA Kilts? That would be the perfect day for it!!!

    Dia Dhuit,

Though it's a bit of a drive, I live in Kitchener, Ontario. Home to the largest Oktoberfest in North America, and the second largest in the world.

Maybe it's because Kitchener used to be named Berlin!

You are very right! For some reason, products stamped "Made in Berlin" were not doing so well in 1916! For some older residents, the name change is still something of a bitter subject as it was presented to the public as a fait accompli. Several years ago, there was an attempt to restore the name to Berlin, but the motion was defeated.

Kitchener himself was quite a controversial figure who wasn't universally loved, especially by the Australians.

I know Waterloo better, having stayed at the Waterloo Inn, and was sorry to discover that the railway to St Jacobs has folded when I did a little surfing earlier.

I picked up a pipe cd the other day and played it through. It has a pipe version of Wooden Heart. Two of my favorite things. Oom pah and pipe music.
