Yikes! UK plates are expensive! My personalized plate fee is $41 to have the plate made, then an add'l $30 a year above and beyond the regular annual fee (approx. $220). Mine is a big SPORRAN indeed..........it'll be on my "grenade green" Hummer H3, which compliments my Black Watch and Gordon tartans. Someone should invent a car sporran to strap on the grille

For example, I could probably buy 'HAM 123' through an agent, for about £300, and it would be mine to keep, but I would have to pay the Department of Vehicle Licensing an additional fee for the privilege.

Recently, I saw 'HAM 15H' advertised for sale by an agency and became quite excited about the prospect of having that on my car. Then I saw the price! They were asking £19,000 for it!! No, as it happens, I am quite content to keep my current 'YC06 DVW' plate!

One of the Geoffrey (Tailor) vehicles carries the plate: 'K1 LTS', which looks good with the tartan livery, but I dread to think what they had to pay for it!

Yeowch! It's an extra $30 / year here for a personalized plate. You folks are getting ripped off.

UK registration codes are completely nonsensical as the letter have little relation to the cities they stand for.

In Ireland, the county of registration is much clearer to work out!

According to the DVLA website, K1LTS was sold for £6,600 in September 1992 and K1LTY for £3,700 at the same time.

My am about to get a new plate and have been thinking about getting it personalized (since its cheaper here in Virginia than it was in Michigan) but instead of kilt related I am planning on going with celtic music related. My favorite band is called Craic Wisely and the fans are called Craic Heads --> CRC HED or my favorite song by them Young Hands --> YNG HNDS. BTW almost all of the band is kilted

I checked in Delaware. Cheap enough but they won't make a plate that says "Kilted " (claiming there were too many characters, as if)

SPORRAN (SP 08 RAN) goes on sale on Tuesday 4th December for £399 www.dvla.gov.uk then link to personalised registrations. Buyer would need to reserve it for affixing to a new car to be registered on or after 1st March, 2008. As I have no plans to change my car at present, no point in me applying for it, but maybe one of our UK members might be able to use this numberplate.

Its about $50 in Va, USA, I think for personilzed plates and that would include everything. But, Kilted Samuri probably knows the actual price.
