I believe Cold Steel is making a Sgian Dubh with more modern materials, but it's still supposed to be incredibly sharp and versatile. I'm going to look into that one when I have the money. I think it's $65 on their website.

Ninja you must be talking about the Brave Heart:

    The page is HERE

Cold Steel's knives all come razor sharp, so be careful putting it back in your sock

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about
I've held one before, they are sharp, I'll probably keep the sheath just above the edge of my boot, just to be little more careful. So, while we're on the topic of Sgain Dubh, does anyone know what that ridge just above the handle is for?

I believe the ridge above the handle is used for pressure. It is not supposed to be sharp. Because a Sgian Dubh is so short you are supposed to be able to put more pressure on it to allow you to have more stability, or power in use of the blade.

If you're referring to the serrations on the spine of the blade, it's called jimping. While it might be functional (giving the thumb better traction when pushing the blade), it might also be essentially decorative; many dirks have similar jimping which serves no apparent purpose.
