It's a damn shame...I was out shopping yesterday and saw some outrageous boxers: black satin with positively day-glo green shamrocks on them. As per Riverkilt's suggestion, should I fed-ex 'em to you?
Another thing you might consider is a little bit of fun that my uncle on my dad's side (the Polish side) used to engage in. He owned a tavern here in Chicago and always got razzed by his mostly Irish patrons and especially on St. Patrick's Day. He finally decided to paint his naked posterior Kelly Green and drop trou on anyone who gave him any guff. Try this one and if anybody lifts the kilt ask 'em, "...whaddaya expect to find under there? Leprechauns?"

ps: apparently you're missing some Uillean Pipes workshops that are going on at Celtic Fest today...I saw Lunasa at the kick-off concert last night and their piper announced that he was going to be doin the workshops.

Cannot say it any better.

I can't speak for Ireland but certainly here in Scotland there's a lot of drunkenness in town centres on Friday and Saturday nights. There are a lot of quiet, normally well behaved people who turn into loudmouthed arrogant nuisances once they are under the influence. People who work hard all week play hard when they finish for the weekend. The only time I ever get any hassle is if I'm out alone in a town or city kilted late on a Friday or Saturday night, when drunks either ask the question or shout some comment about the kilt. Though here in Scotland, at least 95% of the shouted comments will be positive. The very occasional negative doesn't bother me - its just someone expressing their feelings of bitterness and jealousy because they've squandered all their money on booze and can't afford a kilt for themselves.

I think all of us can tell some bad experiences when wearing a kilt. Don't let it ruin your fun wearing a kilt! The good experiences are much more than the bad ones.

It's safe to say Ireland is the same. People "go down the pub" with their 50 quid at the end of the week. It's not as if people here don't do that as well, but even the smallest Irish community has a greater concentration of drinking establishments. Their rules concerning drinking outside of pubs is different as well.

Question
How do you make an Irishman's tongue turn black?

I couldn't have said it better, Alex.
