On the other hand a saffron kilt looks good with lovat green hose, shirt and brown accesories, Maple leaf also comes to mind. I believe brown accesories are also intended for more a formal look.

Loathe as I am to ever disagree with CCGA3359 about anything (I hear he wields a mean chicken) I believe that according to the Kilt Police brown accessories are less formal than black. (That whole IMHO antiquated day wear vs. evening wear thing.) I avoid the problem in its entirety by retiring in the evening in my silk smoking jacket and fez as demonstrated below.

Yes, brown is considered day wear and black is evening wear.

Most of the ancient colours work fine with brown as well especially if they are the ancient hunting tartans. I have an Ancient Hunting Stewart of Appin and it looks great with brown.
