I only just got my first fly plaid for my Cornish National as I will be in Cornwall on a "Turkey n Tinsel" weekend in November.

I cannot advise yet as I haven't tried to put it on!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll let you know how this goes over at the fair. I'll be attending the first weekend in October and the first weekend in November.

Davedove, that is a GREAT photo!
May I ask one question of all you experts out there? Is it pronounced fly "plad" or fly "played"? I always thought it was "plad", but a friend of mine tells me it is "played".
    Please advise!
I've always said "plad," too, but I was talking with friends from Scotland yesterday and they pronounced it "played." I guess I'll continue using the American pronunciation, though.

Here's how I wear mine. Pretty much the same as Davedove

Actually it's closer to "plate". Longish "a" (halfway between "eh" and "ay") and the Gaelic "d" is very hard and sounds closer to an English "t".

("Is that correct, Slohairt?") -- This is an Anglo forum so I try to remember to translate my Gaelic as a courtesy.

Tá, cinnte, A Kilted Biker! Tá cuma mhaith ar sin.

Yes, indeed, Kilted Biker. That sounds right.

Although I myself have always wondered why it isn't pronounced "Platge" or even, "Plat." that would seem more correct to the Gaelic. Maybe it's Lallans influence.
