A choir is about a group, not about individuals. Unless you are a featured soloist (so that setting yourself apart from the rest of the choir makes sense) I would stay with the required uniform.
I applaud your desire to wear the kilt but this maybe one of those times when it is not appropriate.

Nothing wrong with wearing a cummerbund with the PC. It looks just fine.

This is my feeling. That's why the director wanted me to bring it in for him to look at. I want to fit in, obviously, but I also would like (if I could) to wear my kilt.

Just another opinion here, and it's mine, so not worth much, but I think a cumberbumb looks dumb with a kilt! I should also say that I don't much like it with a regular tux either..... much better to use the vest!

I agree - make the look as uniform to the choir as possible.
Use the tie they use, black hose aren't a bad touch, and if you have a Black Shadow tartan from Stillwater, you'll definitely clean up.
My son did this in his high school choir last year, with the director's permission, and he looked great...according to all the young ladies!
He was definitely one of the best dressed there, and drew no undue attention to himself as a result. A tasteful and terrific combo.
Let us know how it goes!

I'm with Mac, (if they let you go kilted) cummerbund would keep you in 'uniform' except for the kilt. If you're not in the front row, no one will even see. You be kind of 'Kilted Tuxedoed'.

This is a time totry not to stand out. If you get away with the kilt, be greatful & try to otherwise blend. Such times as this is not when you want to be different. Personally I'd opt for tru's is a case like this.

This is basically what I'm going for; I may or may not have a black kilt by the time of the performance, but if I don't, I'll wear something dark. I'm with the basses, and we're in the back, so if I wear black hose it should look fine.

I have to agree with this. It seems to me that the director is trying to establish a uniform appearance for the choir. In this case I feel you should bow to his wishes.
Of course, if you could get everyone else in a kilt, that would be the best idea.
