I think you are right on with your choice of the Braemar but I don't see a problem wearing the black tie again, it is a memorial service.

Unfortunately I have seen people wear a PC with a long tie for day wear, honestly it looks daft.

I agree with CajunScott and be sure to look for the armband, that will sure put an extra notch of respect on the service...May your uncle R.I.P. and we will hold you and the comfort of your family in prayer.

    Best regards,

    Chase

Thanks all, yesterday I was asked by my Aunt to place the urn in the ground for her and was quite honoured to do so. My Uncle always loved the Isle of Skye so I wore it, but I think next week will be a wee bit more special as I will be wearing my new MacPherson with the Braemar.

Glen, as with everyone else, I would go with the Braemar and waistcoat for the proper level of formality. I just looked up the MacPherson Red - if you don't want to wear the black tie, do you have a bottle green tie? It's a somber color that would pick up the green overstripe in the MacPherson nicely.
Again, my condolences for your loss.

No I do not have a bottle green tie, but I will have to get a new pin for the new kilt, and may pick up a tie at the tartan shop then.

Everyone else has recommended your Braemar, why should I be any different? It is almost black and will suit the sombre occasion fine. Personally I'd stick to the black tie, as it is you'll be wearing a lot of red in the kilt itself.

I concur with the comments above. The PC would not be appropriate for a day service.

One suggestion I would make is to wear a black tie as that would be a color more fitting for the occasion.

    With my prayers and sympathy,
    Tim

someone suggested I wear my Prince Charlie to the memorial, what do you think? My mind is just about set against it as I would not don my tuxedo for this occasion...
Precisely. I also do a lot of funerals (six in a week once), and I've never seen a PC (or a tuxedo) at one; what a bizarre idea. I can't imagine what they're thinking.

I conduct funerals regularly, the only PC I've ever seen was on the Piper.
