The photo of the IS badge is from a nice history of a lad from the 6th Battalion of the Gordons:

The badge was given to those who volunteered for overseas service during WWI. (Westlake & Chappell, British Territorial Units 1914-18, p.3)

Hi Guys,
First time posting on the forum.
just to add more information on the photograph of the four jocks walking down the sunken lane.
These men are from the 1/7th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders.
The piper is one of two Mackay's who were bagpipers with the Battalion at that time, 9489 Sgt John Mackay or S/10819 Alexander J Mackay, Alexander survived the war.
The photograph was taken by Lt E J Brookes (War Photographer) on the 14th July during the Battle of Bazentin ridge (Somme) 14th-17th July, these men are marching back from the trenches after the attack on Longueval village.
its part of the IWM collection ref number Q4012.
Regards
CEF
