There is no comparison I really don't think it looks identical to my Bovine sporran, as this is a gray sealskin sporran and the bovine is closer to white.

Glen, that is a nice looking sporran. I'm thinking that I may have to spring for a formal fur sporran.
Coincidently, the Fish and Wildlife inspector and I looked at a shipment of hides today, and sealskin sporrans were mentioned.

I'm willing to discuss methods of identifying pelts, if you're willing to listen (WARNING: with all the trainees I've been herding, I find myself slipping into "lecturer mode" a lot lately).

Thanks Gary
I really don't need a lecture, I just think if we ever do a formal kilt night on your side I'll wear my bovine sporran.

I recalled the bovine being darker. I'm still curious to see them side by each. I'm convinced it'll be nye impossible to tell the difference between furs by sight and feel alone. Let us not forget we recently had this discussion on X Marks on a sporran bought in NC. Also looking forward to Wompets lecture as I can take the opportunity to not have to chat about my long flowing golden locks and firm tight buttocks.

Well Grant remember we will have to see the difference between Seal, Bovine and Beaver as well.

Maybe "lecturer mode" wasn't the best phrasing ... "teacher mode," "professor mode" (I've never been a professor, but the new jacket does have elbow patches ...)
I'll bring the raccoon for comparison, and possibly a squirrel.

After Hamish commented that the centre tassel is generally longer than the outer two I did some more tinkereing with it and this is how it came out:
