I don't know about the tradition thing. I am such a conglomoration of northern european white boy that while I can probably claim scottish blood, I can't even begin to say how much or where it is.
I really don't know why I like wearing a kilt so much. I won't even pretend I don't like the attention, particularly from women.
Likewise, I won't even pretend I don't feel just a little bit smug when some other guy says "You know, I've always thought about buying a kilt but..."
The flip side is it's also fun when another potential kiltbrother says "I want to buy a kilt." and starts asking questions about mine.
I like to pretend I'm just a little like Lazarus Long.
I just like wearing my kilts.

Agreement
I too like the whole "dressing up" aspect of the kilt. It's also fun to wear and I do indeed get noticed more kilted than not.
I like my kilts but I also like my jeans. Rumbling around railyards and such in Fort Worth last week would've been ackward in a kilt, in jeans I was passed off as average and of no consequence (and darned near invisible - while carrying a $1200 camera under my jacket ...)
To each their place.
