Yep -- USAKilts uses velcro on their casuals, and can put it on the semi-trads instead of buckles. I have two that they made that way, which I wear when traveling. Works great! (As long as I remember to take off the garters -- there's enough metal in the garter buckles to set off the metal detectors! )

Of course we do. You have to remember, all of the 9-11 flights were internal flights.

Ever since the first time I flew kilted my bits have insisted on kilts for future flights.
I go with the UK Survival II and unsnap the cargo pockets for the scanner. Very easy. I don't resnap them though just put them in that pocket thing on the seat back in front of me. Easier to fit into the sardine seats.
And hey, let them wand away. Seems like about half the bifurcated folks get wanded too. They wand ladies in skirts. Why not gents in kilts?

I'm with Ron here. Kilts (UK's) have always been a non issue when flying. Some airports I set of the detectors, some I don't, but I've never been pulled for a random check.

It's easy. One of the neat things about a (traditional or semi-traditional) kilt is that all your stuff goes into the sporran. I've flown in a SWK heavyweight and wasn't all too happy about it, but that was eight yards of wool, my wide butt and a too-small economy class seat. My preferred "flying kilt" is a USAK semitraditional (blue Ramsay, in fact) with velcro on the left hip and a single buckle and strap on the right hip.
People patting down their pockets for any metal objects have been intrigued when I simply undid the sporran strap and put everything down on the scanner.
I've found the Marton Mills poly-viscose to be wrinkle free, comfortable even in those &^*#-@*$ too small economy class seat, and, for me, "the way to fly."
If you're not up for it, hey, no biggie. it's something to keep in mind, though.
Have fun on your trip--kilted or no!

All my kilts have metal buckles, so I will think about getting a kilt for flying. I remember a thread on that. Thanks.
It's kind of like I don't know what is allowed for regular stuff in the back pack I'm taking, much less with the kilt thing and a bunch of other things and so on. It's very nurvracking just packing.

Well tell your sister congratulations, and tell us how it went when you get back. Travel safe and have a good time. By the way I'm with you I enjoy the kilt immensely but don't know if I am up the facing the airport in one yet.

Thanks. I will make and post a list of things I think would help with flying kilted, just from thinking about it. It's not just about the kilt, it's about making the whole thing not such a hassel.

I'm thinking that strapps and buckles need to be changeable without killing the kilt at least. There's been times I wish I could swap the black straps for brown on my BK kakhi anyway.

I've flown kilted from Chicago to Dallas and Boston to Toronto. No problems, except that the metal buckles on my SWK Saffron, (since they couldn't be removed) set the metal detector off, and so I had to get wanded...unfortunately for me it was a new TSA agent, so he was learning...at least I gave him a story to tell others about!
